Asian Art Museum San Francisco
With over 13,000 objects in its collection, the Asian Art Museum is one of the largest and most important museums of Asian culture in the western world. Recently moved from Golden Gate Park to the former library in San Francisco's Civic Center, the museum is composed of 33 galleries filled with exquisite sculptures, paintings, bronzes, ceramics, and jade items. The collection includes objects from south Asia, west Asia, Southeast Asia, the Himalayas, China, Korea, and Japan. The permanent collection spans 6000 years of Asian history and culture.
The museum allows for display of 2500 objects at a time, which are rotated into display. Additionally, temporary exhibitions of treasures on loan from Asia are presented here on a regular basis. The breath-taking collection, housed in a wonderful facility makes this museum an absolute gem. Aside from the galleries, the museum also houses an impressive educational facility for lectures, instruction and community events. There is a café on the premises, which features a very pleasant outdoor terrace.
