Exploratorium San Francisco
Described as a museum of science, art and Human perception, the Exploratorium has been ranked by Scientific American magazine as "the best science museum in the world". With over 650 exhibits explaining, demonstrating and testing all aspects of science, it is hard to argue with that evaluation. Here visitors can touch, pull, yell, listen, turn, read step, jump, crawl, kick and look their way into understanding speech and hearing, machines, sound, vibrations, heat and temperature, life sciences, electricity and magnetism, vision and light.
"Explainers" are on hand to answer questions and demonstrate scientific principles. Watch lightning be created, see how a laser works, or witness the dissection of a cows eye. The most popular exhibit in the museum is the Tactile Dome. With an extra admission fee, you can find your way through a large, multilevel geodesic dome, using only your sense of touch. The museum is located in the Palace of Fine Arts.
