Golden Gate Bridge San Francisco

Golden Gate Bridge
If not the world's most beautiful bridge, it is certainly one of the most recognized. Built in 1937 this mammoth art-deco span has remained the symbol of San Francisco despite a number of more modern and impressive structures. The Bridge crosses San Francisco Bay, connecting San Francisco with Marin County and is breathtaking from nearly every viewpoint. Take the time to walk or bike the length of the bridge for a spectacular view and an experience of a lifetime. The views of the bridge from Golden Gate Park or the Presidio are just as awesome.
At the time of its construction, the bridge was the longest suspension bridge in the world (2 miles or 3km) and the 746ft (224m) suspension towers were higher than any structure west of New York City. The Bay Bridge, which connects San Francisco to
Oakland, is older, longer and carries more traffic than the Golden Gate Bridge, but has never had the same fame. The color, by the way was an accident. The designers were still trying to determine the final color when someone finally noticed how well the rust-toned primer fit with the surrounding area. It has remained the same ever since.
