Nob Hill San Francisco
Nob Hill is San Francisco's most exclusive community. In the years of the great westward expansion, this overgrown and unusable was hill was conquered and landscaped by 4 railroad barons who wanted to live (literally) above the commoners and immigrants that were filling the city in the years following the gold rush. Its name was aptly derived from Hindu word that refers to a very wealthy or powerful person. Robert Louis Stevenson dubbed it "the hill of palaces". Things haven't changed much. Today the neighborhood is the residence of the most wealthy and powerful San Franciscans.

The homes are still beautiful, the parks are well manicured and the views of the rest of the city and the bay are excellent. To say that the neighborhood is exclusive doesn't mean that it is off limits. Plan to spend a morning or an afternoon exploring the area. Be sure to visit Huntington Park and Grace Cathedral. It may be easiest to visit Nob Hill by cable car, since the walk is somewhat steep, and parking your car can be a challenge on the 25% grade. The "nawabs" who first moved here built their own cable car line just for that purpose, and it is still in operation today.
