While you are visiting San Francisco you may want to slip across the Bay to the city of Oakland, California. This is the home to Oakland Raiders, one of the most popular teams in the National Football League. It's a team that has gained a legion of followers through its tough-minded, blue-collar attitude; and attitude that represents the city well. In some ways Oakland is the antithesis to San Francisco. While it may not have the history or the style of its neighbor, it doesn't lack for spirit or attractions. Oakland is the home of the Museum of California, a museum that displays nature, art and the history of California., primarily though a series of "environments" rather than exhibits.
The Chabot Space and Science Center focuses on astronomy and space sciences. There are a couple of ships that you might want to tour. USS Hornet is a famous aircraft carrier from World War II. The USS Potomac was the "floating White House" of Franklin Roosevelt. Later it belonged to Elvis Presley. It has been completely restored to its 1939 configuration. Oakland also offers you the chance for an hour-long tour in an authentic Gondola from Venice. As you can see, there are plenty of reasons to take the trip across the Bay Bridge to discover the delights of Oakland.
