San Francisco Museum of Modern Art
San Francisco's Museum of Modern Art opened its doors in 1995 and has quickly become one of the best museums in this city which has been known as a cultural center for decades. The building was designed by Swiss architect Mario Botta and while the exterior is virtually identical to his cathedral at Rennes in France, the interior is entirely unique.
Like most modern galleries, maximum use of space and light create an excellent venue for the 15,000 paintings, drawings and sculptures which are on permanent display. The works of Jackson Pollack, Andy Warhol, Henri Matisse, Willem de Kooning, Diego Rivera, and Georgia O'Keeffe and hundreds of other are represented here. This is the home of nearly the entire collection of the works of Paul Klee. The museum has a large photography exhibition as well and features many of the works of American West nature photographer, Ansel Adams. The museum also regularly holds exhibitions of high-profile works.
