San Francisco Museums
San Francisco offers a wide variety of museums and galleries. The
California Academy of Sciences houses a natural history museum, aquarium and planetarium under the same roof. The
Exploratorium is a world class science museum with a strong emphasis on audience participation. For those interested in the arts, San Francisco will not disappoint you. The San Francisco
Museum of Modem Art, designed by Swiss architect Mario Botta, is known around the world for its collection and special exhibits.
The
Asian Museum of Art may very well be the most important of its kind in the Americas. The
California Palace of the Legion of Honor is a repository of European works of Art. The Galleries at
Yerba Buena also feature a continuing schedule of exhibitions of art and media. Numerous specialty museums are every bit as worthy of the visitors' attention. A few of these include Museo Italo Americano, Cartoon Art Museum, the California Historical Society, Galeria de La Raza, and Friends of Photography/Ansel Adams Center.
