San Francisco Symphony
Like all great cities, San Francisco has an outstanding symphony orchestra. Since the San Francisco Symphony was founded in 1911, they have produced over 140 recordings and have traveled to every continent of the globe. September through June finds them at home in the Louise M. Davies Symphony Hall presenting a broad repertoire to enthusiastic audiences. San Francisco knows the arts and appreciates the technical and artistic excellence of their own Symphony. Nearly 600,000 people attend 230 concerts each year, and about a tenth of them are able to enjoy the symphony free of charge through a series of outdoor and community concerts.
The Orchestra has become well known for innovative programming, impassioned performances and the partnership they have established with their committed audience. Their credo: Every concert should reaffirm, challenge and entertain. Whether you catch a performance on a summer's afternoon at the base of the Golden Gate Bridge or a more formal presentation at Davies Hall, you will see why the San Francisco Symphony has so many passionate supporters.
